From analytics to biotechnology, from life sciences to diagnostics: This year, 17 French companies present their expertise at Analytica, the world's leading trade fair for the sector.

The French laboratory market valued at an estimated EUR 1.8 billion. The sector comprises some 30 French producers with 3,500 employees and revenue of EUR 700 million, half of it exported (source: Fabrilabo). The French laboratory market is broad-based, but the two main business areas, the academic sector and the pharmaceutical industry, account for 50 per cent of the work of the profession.

Laboratory instruments, apparatus and equipment are used in all laboratories for research, innovation, controls and quality assurance. These tools form important links to economic development in fields such as chemistry, the environmental sciences, agri-food, biotechnology and medicine.

A high level of creative output in France…

Many of the enterprises in the sector belong to small and medium-sized industry and are close to the needs of their customers, sometimes in niche markets. Research in France has a high level of creative output in the field of instrumentation. Often, however, this developmental step is the end of the story. A market-ready product is then left to partners to develop and market. In terms of innovation, France is average for Europe, behind Germany, the UK and the Scandinavian countries. There are three segments that drive the dynamics of French research within Europe: energy and the environment, the cosmetics sector and the agri-food industry.

The French pavilion is organised jointly with Fabrilabo, the association of manufacturers and retailers of laboratory equipment, and the association Réseau Mesure, an association of companies specialising in instruments, measurements and related activities. The aim of the exhibiting companies is not only to meet end customers but also to find distributors in Germany and worldwide.
