Merck KGaA. (2/6/14). "Press Release: Merck Appoints New Heads of Legal and Auditing Functons. Friederike Rotsch Appointed Group Legal Councel – Barbara Weiland to Lead Group Internal Auditing". Darmstadt.

Merck announced today the appointments of two important leadership positions. Friederike Rotsch will become Group Legal Counsel and Head of Group Legal & Compliance effective April 1, 2014. At the same time, Barbara Weiland will succeed Rotsch as Head of Group Internal Auditing. Both will directly report to the Chairman of the Executive Board of Merck, Karl-Ludwig Kley.

"Merck has worked hard for years to foster and develop highly qualified employees. Now we can further benefit from this. In 2012, we were already able to fill 88 % of our management positions with internal candidates and could continue this trend in 2013," said Kley.

Friederike Rotsch (41), currently Head of Group Internal Auditing, started her career with Merck in 2005 as Corporate Counsel in Corporate Legal Services. From 2007 to 2011 she headed Corporate Legal Services and took over her current position in Group Internal Auditing in 2011. Prior to joining Merck, Friederike Rotsch worked for several years as attorney at law at one of the most renowned German law firms. Friederike Rotsch graduated from the University of Passau, Germany, and holds a legal diploma from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff, UK, and a doctorate from the University of Passau. She will succeed François Naef who had decided to leave Merck for personal reasons at the end of 2013 in order to return to his family in Geneva. "François Naef has made important contributions to Merck. I would like to thank him very much for this. While I understand his decision to return to Geneva, I, however, regret this," said Kley.

Barbara Weiland (40) has been responsible for supporting most of Merck's Group Functions as Head of Global HR Business Partner Group Functions since 2011. Barbara Weiland started her career with Merck in 2005 as Senior HR Manager for Management Development. She became Global HR Business Partner for various Group Functions in 2009. Before joining Merck, Barbara Weiland performed different HR positions at Lufthansa. She holds a graduate degree in industrial psychology from the University of Würzburg, Germany.
