KWS Saat AG. (7/2/12). "Press Release: KWS Enters Brazilian Seed Market. Acquisition of Two Breeding Companies and Entrepreneurial Participation in a Corn Seed Products and Sales Enterprise".

KWS enters the Brazilian seed market for tropical corn through the acquisition of the two breeding companies SEMÍLIA GENÉTICA E MELHORAMENTO LTDA. and DELTA PESQUISA E SEMENTES LTDA., as well as an entrepreneurial partnership with Riber SEMENTES LTDA, a corn seed production and sales enterprise. Hence, KWS expands its activities into the tropical corn segment for the first time. With approx. 14 mio. ha, Brazil is the third largest corn market in the world.

SEMÍLIA and DELTA, acquired on June 1, 2012 are located in Paraná and run four breeding stations in Brazil. On July 1st, 2012 both companies merged to form KWS BRASIL PESQUISA & SEMENTES LTDA. The breeding programs of this new company will be carried out under KWS leadership in cooperation with the previous owners, Francisco Terasawa (SEMÍLIA) as well as Iran de Azevedo Duarte and Valdemar Naspolini Filho (DELTA).

As of July 1, 2012, KWS acquired a majority shareholder position in RIBER, and the name of the company was changed to RIBER - KWS SEMENTES S.A. This company, located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, will continue its focus on the Brazilian market through offering GM corn hybrids and soybean varieties. RIBER - KWS will continue to work with license partners and KWS to offer top-performing products to farmers throughout Brazil. Our partner and co-owner Cláudio Nasser de Carvalho is the CEO of RIBER - KWS.

"We are looking forward to entering the Brazilian market together with these three excellent companies and their employees", stated Christoph Amberger, responsible for corn in the Executive Board of KWS. "The new colleagues with their expertise concerning the products and the market combined with KWS global breeding competence provide a good platform for future growth in this important seed market", Amberger continued.
