European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI)

the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) identifies the investment needs in research facilities of pan-European importance that are necessary to strengthen scientific excellence and competitiveness in the European Research Area. They are of such magnitude and scope that countries need to pool their resources to build them. The European Commission has been supporting the development of these infrastructures from the successive EU funding programmes for research and innovation. Under Horizon 2020, the current funding programme, €214 million will be made available through competitive calls in 2018-2019. Once implemented, the infrastructures in the ESFRI roadmap will provide open access to resources and services for all scientists across Europe. *
