Seed stage investor continues its success story

High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) today announced the first closing of HTGF III with a volume of 245 million Euros to more than 1,000 participants from the business community, politics, and startup scene on the occasion of the Family Day 2017 in Bonn. In addition to public partners like the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the KfW, investors include 26 companies from the industry and business world. From fall 2017, High-Tech Gründerfonds III will invest up to three million Euros in each company and in exceptional cases even more venture capital.

High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) is Germany’s largest and most active seed stage investor. The new High-Tech Gründerfonds III continues the success story of the first two funds with almost 500 investments and a total of 75 exits. The target fund volume of 300 million Euros ensures the seed stage investor supports up to 40 startups of all key sunrise industries every year. The number of private investors in the public-private partnership was again increased from six in Fonds I and 18 in Fonds II to 26. This ensures that HTGF invests like a private institutional investor. The focus has also been broadened: Fonds III can be used to fund startups up to the age of three.

HTGF III creates significant added portfolio value

“HTGF III not only enables us to provide more funds for each company, but creates significantly more added value for our portfolio based on the substantially enlarged group of investors in the fund“, explains Dr. Alex von Frankenberg, Managing Director, High-Tech Gründerfonds. Founders, fund investors and HTGF alike benefit from the close partnership: startups get direct access to fund investors; small and medium sized enterprises and corporations involved in the fund obtain a broad view of new technologies, business models, and benefit from direct access to the best startups and founders. Moreover, the High-Tech Gründerfonds leverages the business community’s additional know-how and experience.

“In addition to our financial commitment we support technology ventures by providing our team’s expertise and our resilient, international network of investors, experts, and (multiple) founders”, says Dr. Michael Brandkamp, Managing Director, High-Tech Gründerfonds. “We have performed transactions with more than 1,400 investors, accounting for five transactions a week and acquired 1.4 billion Euros for our portfolio. We stay connected and engaged with our portfolio and team alumni. These intense networking activities involve all relevant players of the startup and investor community and help us consolidate the HTGF III. “

Distinguished investors empower startups “Made in Germany“

The group of investors in the High-Tech Gründerfonds III for the first closing include the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the KfW, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft e.V. as well as the industry investors ALTANA, BASF, B.Braun, Robert Bosch, BÜFA, CEWE, Deutsche Post DHL, Drillisch AG, EVONIK, Haniel, Hettich, Knauf, Körber, LANXESS, media + more venture Beteiligungs GmbH & Co. KG, PHOENIX CONTACT, Postbank, QIAGEN, SAP, Schufa, Schwarz Gruppe, STIHL, Thüga, Vector Informatik, and WACKER.
