Prof. Dr. Ralf Huss will become the new managing director of BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH, effective of January 1st, 2023, succeeding Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey, who will be retiring.
Prof. Huss has many years of experience in academic research and international pharmaceutical companies. After his studies in medicine and research stays in Switzerland and the USA with a focus on immunology, as well as cancer and stem cell research, he specialized in pathology and became professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich. From 2005 to 2011, he worked in Pharma Research & Early Development at Roche Diagnostics, Penzberg, before co-founding apceth in Munich, where he served as Chief Scientific Officer. In 2015, Huss joined Definiens as Chief Medical Officer. Since 2020, he has been Managing Senior Physician at the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Diagnostics, since 2021 Director of the Institute of Digital Medicine (IDM) and most recently also Deputy Medical Director at Augsburg University Hospital.
As of January 1st, 2023, Prof. Huss will take over as Managing Director of BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH, the network organization of the biotechnology industry in Munich and Bavaria since 1997. Prof. Horst Domdey, who co-founded the biotech cluster organization and successfully led it for 25 years, will be retiring.
"After 25 years, I can hand over the BioM cluster management organization to Ralf Huss with a good feeling," explains Prof. Domdey. "I am sure that with his great experience and extremely broad expertise, and supported by the dedicated BioM team, he will continue to successfully lead the Bavarian biotechnology industry into the future."
Prof. Huss affirms, "Under the leadership of Prof. Domdey, BioM has achieved great things for Bavaria and Munich as a biotechnology region. The life science region has developed into one of the most successful biotech clusters in Europe. I am very much looking forward to this exciting new task."
About BioM
For 25 years, BioM has been the networking organization for the biotechnology industry in Munich and Bavaria, acting on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. BioM supports the Bavarian biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry with an extensive network in establishing new business contacts. The cluster management offers interested parties from Germany and abroad central access and a wide range of information about the industry. Especially for future company founders, BioM offers comprehensive advice and specialized coaching, training and mentoring programs with the virtual incubator inQlab. Furthermore, since 2011 has coordinated the m4 Award pre-founding competition in the field of biomedicine, which is sponsored by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. In total, BioM has supported over 200 start-ups. BioM also organizes a wide range of training courses, events and network meetings.
