High-Tech Gründerfonds Management GmbH. (10/19/17). "Press Release: Venture Capital. RWE Generation Invests in HTGF III".

RWE Generation SE has announced a strategic investment in High-Tech Gründerfonds’ third fund, HTGF III, which is launching with a planned volume of over EUR 300 million.

High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) is Germany’s most active seed stage investor. It provides financing for young, innovative technology-driven start-ups and actively supports them in implementing their business ideas.

“Through this investment, we are seeking to gain access to innovative start-ups and monitor technological trends across various industries,” explains Götz Hanau, Head of Strategy & Innovation at RWE Generation. As part of the endeavour, RWE’s focus is on energy and digital applications. Coinciding with the company’s investment, RWE will also provide input in the investor committees for hardware, automation, energy and industrial software, and for IT, software, telecommunications and e-commerce. RWE Generation SE is investing a seven-figure sum in the fund.

“If individual start-ups are a good fit for us, we will explore collaborations as well as investments in individual cases,” Hanau says.

“We are delighted that, in RWE Generation, we have not only secured an investor with a great deal of interest in a broad range of companies in HTGF’s portfolio and deal flow – but also one with a lot of energy-specific expertise and networks. The close collaboration will prove to be highly beneficial, not just for portfolio companies, but for RWE Generation as well,” explains Dr. Alex von Frankenberg, Managing Director of High-Tech Gründerfonds.
